MISSION AND VISION

The Mission

The Vision

At the 2004 General Assembly, a set of seven commitments were adopted which reflect the Church of God’s core values
in regard to fulfilling its mission and vision.

PRAYER
We commit ourselves to making prayer the highest priority of the church demonstrated by regular corporate gatherings  of prayer.

PENTECOSTAL WORSHIP
We commit ourselves to gather regularly as the local expression of the Body of Christ to participate in Pentecostal worship that exalts God, engages the heart, mind and soul, and challenges to deepen commitment and discipleship.

WORLD EVANGELIZATION
We commit ourselves to intentionally reach the unconverted, baptizing them in water, and leading them to unite with the church.

CHURCH PLANTING
We commit ourselves to identifying, training, and resourcing
God-called church planters and to intentionally planting new
life-giving churches.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
We commit ourselves to identifying and developing individuals whom God has called and given leadership gifts and challenging them to become servant-leaders.

CARE
We commit ourselves to the challenge of being a church that genuinely cares for one another and for those who are lost, hurting, and needy.

INTERDEPENDENCE
We commit ourselves to the principle of interdependence, acknowledging our interconnectedness, and dependence on all the members of the Body of Christ.
Our vision is to make Southside Church of God
better, not bigger, for Jesus.
Southside Church of God seeks to create a
community of authentic believers and to witness a
city transformed by the life-changing reality of the gospel, as people come to know Jesus as their Lord
and Savior.  Our vision is to be a lighthouse to the community of Alma, GA. To impact, encourage, train, lead, and equip our church, our community, and our
city to know the Lord as their personal Savior.

How it all started...
The Southside Story!

On July 24, 1966, the first church service was held in a small building known as Buddy's Cafe on Patterson Highway, with 86 present. Thirty one members were taken in by Brother Hubert Norris. The average attendance for the first six weeks was 75. On August 14,1966, services were moved to the Boy Scout Hut on Radio Station Rd. There were 16 new members added at this time. Services took place here for six months. The first service at the new church building at 102 Taylor Road took place on February 12, 1967 with 150 in attendance. On March 5, 1967, Rev. John Smith dedicated the facility to the Lord.  In 1974 the church sanctuary was enlarged and new Sunday School rooms, social hall, and parsonage were built. In 2000, the social hall was enlarged again, a new pastor's office, nursery and Sunday school rooms were built. In 2001, the church bought and completely remodeled the brick house which joins the back of the property. In 2003, the church purchased five acres of land directly across from the church and pastor's parsonage. Around 2006, the concrete house next to the parsonage was purchased and later renovated to become the Youth House. In 2015, the sanctuary and social hall were completely renovated and updated. In 2020, the carport attached to the concrete house was enclosed and turned in to the church's first official office, with the addition of the church's first full time Ministerial Assistant. In 2022, a new Youth and Children's Worship Center was constructed behind the church office.
